It's a great thematic fit (both rogues and rangers are sneaky, agile, and tend to use finesse or ranged weapons), and you get a few incredibly strong benefits at very early levels: Most Multiclass guides will tell you that the "Race to 5" is the most important thing - that is, every class really takes off at level 5 by getting either 3rd level spells, 3d6 sneak attack, or extra attack. You could either go straight to Rogue 5 and then just take ranger levels, or you could just start leveling ranger immediately after Rogue and be just one level behind on your extra attack.
